Kari Nergaard Bleivik is an award winning vocalist, composer, lyricist and lecturer, born in Trondheim, Norway. She has been teaching at Leeds College of Music since 2002.

Kari was the proud 2012 receiver of the Jazz Yorkshire Vocalist of the Year award.

Kari is a member of LIMA (Leeds Improvised Music Association) and also co runs FUSEBOX, and has toured and performed in Norway, USA, Mexico, Australia, Zimbabwe, Germany and England, as well as performed at festivals such as Moldejazz, Nattjazz, Vossa Jazz, Young Musicians Festival, FUSE Leeds, Harare International Festival of Arts, Melbourne International Womens Jazz Festival and Bjørnsonfestivalen among others.

Together with Røyst she has written comission music for a festival in 2005, recorded for radio, theatre and film, and taught vocal workshops at institutions such as Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, The Nordic Institute for Stage and Studio (NISS) in Oslo and a whole range of FE, HE and Community Colleges throughout Norway.
In 2007 Røyst did a collaboration project with world renowned saxophonist Iain Ballamy, Norwegian percussionist Thomas Stronen and the LIMA sax quartet.
In 2009 she wrote some comission pieces for orchestra based on the music of Raymond Scott for the FUSE Leeds festival.

As well as her regular projects, Røyst and Sonic Stories, Kari has been working on musical projects such as the trio Vehere with Sean Foran (piano) and Joachim Badenhorst (clarinet). They released their debut album on Australian label New Market Music 27th November 2009 and toured around Australia December 2009. The tour was supported by the Arts Council of Norway.

She has also been involved with the large scale project from IDST and Submotion Orchestra drummer Tommy Evans, the Tommy Evans Orchestra. They toured the UK in 2010 and 2011 and will shortly announce tour dates for 2012. TEO have just received the 2012 Jazz Yorkshire awards in the big band category and Tommy has also won a BASCA for his compositions.
April 2010 saw Kari traveling to Zimbabwe to perform with Røyst and collaborate with local musicians. The group wrote new music that was premiered at the HIFA festival in Harare under the project name WoCalling. Wocalling toured Germany and Norway in 2011, their performance highlight being Moldejazz... Kari was also involved with a new project from saxophonist Matt Anderson called "Songs of the Ridings, debuting at Scarborough Jazz Festival in September 2011.
Sonic Stories Orchestra will be announcing the release date of their debut album in the not too distant future, and The Tommy Evans Orchestra will soon be releasing their first album "The Green Seagull". She has currently been working on new project From A Bad Girl with composer/piano player Sunniva Brynnel, and will be announcing another new project shortly!
