ESPAÑOL: VICTORIA SUR Cantante y compositora colombiana, recorrió los más importantes festivales de música tradicional de su país entre los 10 y los 20 años de edad, como integrante del dúo “Sombra y Luz”. Adelantó estudios musicales en La Habana, Cuba y posteriormente en New York, recibió clases magistrales con la maestra Barbara Meyer. Su primer trabajo discográfico, titulado “Bambuco Ácido” (2004), cuenta con la producción musical de Juan Sebastián Monsalve, destacado músico colombiano. Así mismo, Victoria hizo parte de la agrupación de world music “Mandrágora”. Compuso e interpretó la Canción Oficial de los Juegos Bolivarianos de 2005 titulada “Es América”. Al año siguiente (2006) representó a Colombia en el Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro de Bogotá, compartiendo escenario con la cubana Omara Portuondo y la española Martirio. Su segundo trabajo discográfico como solista, “Colección de mundos” (2008), fue dirigido por el guitarrista Teto Ocampo (ex director del grupo La Provincia de Carlos Vives), recibiendo importantes comentarios de medios especializados en Colombia quienes la describen como: “una de las grandes revelaciones de la música colombiana”. Victoria Sur regresa este 2010 a Colombia después de adelantar estudios de especialización en música y poesía en el Centro Cultural Rojas de la Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina y actualmente se encuentra en la promoción de su tercer álbum solista titulado “Belleza Silvestre”, auspiciado por la Fundación Gilberto Alzate Avendaño. Este álbum contó con la participación de destacados músicos argentinos como Claudio Cardone (actual pianista de Spinetta), Alejandro Oliva (percusionista de Pedro Aznar), Lucio Balduini, Cheba Massolo, Ariel Naón, Maxi Padín y la participación del pianista colombiano Nicolás Ospina. ***************************************************** “She is one of Colombia’s most outstanding voices in recent years” Carlos Solano. Victoria Sur is a Colombian singer and songwriter who began her professional career at the early age of nine, playing folk music in her hometown of Armenia (key city in the Colombian coffee-growing region). Victoria has worked in genres like jazz, rock, pop, and folk music, showing an ample stylistic versatility. In Victoria's early years she won the prestigious "Mono Nuñez" prize, one of the most important folk music awards in Colombia. In 2005 the Colombian Culture Ministry gave her the National Rock Award. She has appeared with renowned national and international artists, performing in the central act of the Iberoamerican Theatre Festival in Bogotá 2006 alongside the Cuban legend Omara Portuondo (Buena Vista Social Club) as well as with the Spanish singer Martirio. Victoria has shown to be a very consistent live player in successful tours around the country with her band. Apart from participating in different projects such as the world music ensemble “Mandrágora”, she has released three albums as a solo artist. The first one, “Bambuco Ácido”, appeared in 2004 and shocked some critics who used to think of her as a traditionalist. On November 2008 she released her second solo album called "Colección de Mundos", which received positive reviews all around. Rolling Stone magazine called her style “pure sonorous sensuality”. “Belleza Silvestre”, released in 2010, is Victoria Sur's third album: an all-acoustic journey to rhythms of South America, where you can hear echoes of Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Peru, Venezuela and of course, Victoria's native Colombia. Features eight original songs, two covers and a special appearance by Luis Alberto Spinetta's keyboard player in the track "Barro, tal vez". Victoria Sur's background in the folk circuits of her native Colombia gives her the musical ideas to develop a fresh style. Her songs are acoustic, based on her roots but modern at the same time, and her voice ranges from sensual to sweet.
