It seems like just yesterday G. Dep was Diddy’s protege, however yesterday the rapper was found guilty of killing a man in a botched murder attempt almost two decades ago and the jury recommended that he receive the mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years to life for the crime..
You may recall that G. Dep (a.k.a. Trevell Coleman) confessed to the crime out of nowhere in 2010 at Manhattan’s 25th precinct saying he needed to clear his conscience. The prosecution kept in mind that they wouldn’t have caught Coleman without his confession and the Manhattan Assistant District Attorney David Drucker went to so far as to say, “This case was as closed as a case could be.”
.
Before being sentenced Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Michael Obus reportedly told Coleman, “I’m sure there are people that are second-guessing your decision [to confess to the crime], and there will be people that will second-guess it. Perhaps it wasn’t the best legal strategy, but certainly it was the right thing to do, even though it landed you in the position that you are in now.”
.
So what do you think of G. Dep’s sentencing and do you think the punishment fits the crime? Let us know in the comments section below as you listen to G. Dep Radio!
